Last day of school

I felt a little emotional this morning dropping Abby off for her last day of preschool. I remember how nervous I felt on her very first day back in August. In true Abby style there were no tears that day, but I watched the clock the entire morning, waiting for noon, so that I could hurry back to pick her up. Seems a little silly now.

She showed me which little hand print was hers.

Every time I picked her up we had the same conversation.

Me: "Abby, what did you do today?"
Abby: "PLAY!"

When I first toured a couple of preschools I remember asking the directors what sort of "curriculum" they had. Diane, the director here, told me that she believed the best learning for little ones is social learning. Learning to play well with others. Learning to share. Learning to take turns. While Abby did in fact learn to count and say her ABCs, I'm glad the emphasis this year was more on social skills and simple PLAY. Multiplication tables will come soon enough. Until then, I want to protect Abby's childhood play time.

The kids had a celebratory play day today and I swung by for a little while after teaching my 6th grade horn students. Notice most parents sent swim suits (and towels!) for their kids. Oops! Abby didn't mind and jumped right into the pool in her clothes.

This rope walk cracked me up but wow, they sure knew what to do!

This is Miss Ashley, who Abby adores. Miss Crystal was out today.

Here are a few pictures for my own memories.

Abby likes to swing around each of these polls when we leave.

And touch the water in the fountain.

See?

When did you get so big, my little girl? *sniff, sniff*
