After getting back from our trip to Sanibel Island on Tuesday, we squeezed in a visit to the farm on Wednesday morning. I've wanted to visit Old McMicky's for awhile now and thought it would be especially fun to take my dad since he grew up on a farm.
First stop: donkeys
Our group of kids and parents was led by a guide from one station to the next. Tours start every 15 minutes and it was a really great system had it not been for a big school group ahead of us. Things got a little backed up from time to time but that just gave us more time with the animals.
The chickens ended up being the highlight of the visit for Abby. She caught several all on her own! I should have taken pictures of her chasing after them, bent over with arms outstretched. I was a little surprised that she was so fearless with them. At one point she even went chasing after a big rooster! It's probably a good thing he got away.
We saw chickens laying on their eggs in the coop.
They were seriously the most tolerant chickens!
Next up: milking the cow. This cow's name is Faith and I found myself feeling so sorry for her with all of these kids squeezing on her "nipple!" I think I've gained much more appreciation of all nursing mommas. She was locked into position so that she didn't hurt the kids and I felt bad for her, but my dad assured me she was happy and fine. She had bowls of food and water right in front of her.
Success! Abby finally rode a pony!
How cute is this English rabbit? His ears are 12'' long.
So soft.
Our final stop was the goats.
These babies were just 5 days old!
So stinkin' cute.
Our tour ended with a quick hayride.
Thanks, farm, for the fun morning!
My dad's vacation time was up and he had to get back to work so he left for the airport later that afternoon and then my mom, Robert, Abby and I began our road trip to my sister's house in Mississippi. We drove 4 hours to Tallahassee and stayed in a hotel before driving 4 more hours the following day to Ocean Springs. Abby has slept in a lot of different beds over the past few weeks, but she's doing great. Next up: curly haired cousins in Mississippi!
