Abby and I just wrapped up the week of Vacation Bible School at our church. She was in the 2 year olds class with her friends Briella, Kate and Zoe while I assisted with the 5 year olds. Abby spent about 4 hours in her class each morning which I just realized is the most she's ever been away from me during the week. The mornings were long for her and she had a few tears in the beginning; however, today when I passed by her in the hall during one of her "buggy rides" and asked if she wanted to hold my hand for a minute she promptly told me to go back to my own class. Ha! Thanks, hon.
Here's Abby's little class. She's standing between her good friends Zoe (holding the baby doll) and Briella (on the right).
Let's zoom in on that sweet little face.
I like finding opportunities to spend time with older kids so that I can prepare myself for the years ahead. I learned from this cast of characters that 5 year olds are often just as moody and emotional as 2 year olds. See Ryleigh, the little girl on the far left in the middle row? Yep, she's crying because a little water got spilled on her shirt. She was having a rough day. I totally shouldn't pick on her because they all had their own special moments. We had up to 13 kids at a time with 3 adults and 2 student workers and we were all worn out by noon. I found myself wondering how my mom handles her class of 22 first graders all day. Seriously, how do teachers do it?
So hooray our first VBS together! I'm sure there are many more to come. Up next? More swimming lessons, Nana and Papa's arrival on Thursday, Abby's first hair cut and a few days on Sanibel Island. Can't wait!
